From the early 1950s British Rail built hundreds of new Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains as part of the modernisation plan for the railways.
These units commonly known as Early or 1st Generation DMUs, mostly standardised on the brake systems and multiple working systems so that they could be operated together when required. Some of these DMUs remained in service well into until the 1990s and many can be seen on preserved railways.
This set of brake pipes and multiple working cables is enough for both ends of one 2-Coach DMU, the UNPAINTED pack includes:-
4 - Vacuum Brake / Train Pipe Hose sets (VAC)
4 - Multiple Working Jumper Cable sets (MW Cables)
4 - Multiple Working Receptacles (MW)
4 - Control Air Pipes (CA)
Also included on the sprue are:
2 - Dummy Screw Couplings
1 - Oil Type Tail Lamp
+
2 - Dummy Screw Couplings (Stored Position)
Note these parts are delicate and some may not be suitable for use with couplings fitted, especially on tighter radius curves.
The vacuum and control air pipes have a 0.7mm peg that can be fitted into a drilled hole in the headstock, alternatively the peg can be cut-off and the pipe attached with a small amount of adhesive.
The Multiple Working cables and receptacles are intended to be glued to the underside of the headstock on both ends of each DMU coach (see pictures). Please note that some models may require the removal (by cutting off) some moulded representation of headstock mounted parts in order to fit these new multiple working cables and receptacles.
All pipes and cables are supplied unpainted on a sprue, please refer to the pictures for typical colours.
Top-Tip - use a light coat of white primer first, and paint the pipes before removing them from the sprue.
